About Shari Duddy
Shari Duddy is one of the many great special education teachers in the New Jersey area. She has dedicated her life to helping children get the education they well deserve. The following is her mission statement.
"I believe that all children can learn and be motivated to become life long learners and reach their potential. I believe that to accomplish optimal student learning we need to apply the same principles we apply to teaching students to the training and supervision of teachers. A collaborative, supportive, success oriented approach which respects the natural learning process of teachers as well as students with emphasis on straight forward quality feedback, reflective thinking, discussion and high standards will help encourage teachers build on their strengths, empowering them to take initiative for their own learning."
Shari is a dedicated, experienced, and patient woman. She respects the individual learning process of every child she teaches and with 30 years experience she is an expert in the field of Special Education.
-Shari Duddy's Career-
Shari Duddy's career began as a third-grade teacher. Currently, she has a Masters Degree of Education in Instruction, Curriculum and Administration from Kean University (New Jersey), Learning Disabilities Teacher Consult Certification from William Paterson University of New Jersey, and will be completing her Supervisory certification in May 2014. Today, Shari is a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant in New Jersey. She spent the first 18 years of her career pioneering teaching methods and breaking through the barriers between special education and general education students. Her approach to teaching has attracted positive media attention and her work has even been displayed in 'What's Right in American Education' in the 1990's, and she has been mentioned in numerous newspaper articles in which she explains her unique teaching techniques. During her time with the Livingston school system, she was trained in literacy education through Teachers College, Columbia University and completed her Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant certification. Being a member of the Interventional and Referral Services team, Shari was a crucial part in implementing strategies to differentiate instruction. She also contributed to the writing of mathematics, social studies, and language arts curricula.
Despite all of her achievements, one of her most proud career moments is leading a pilot program which unlike common classrooms, joined together the special education students and the general education students to create a learning environment that focused on the strengths and needs instead of disabilities. It was then that she engaged her unique teaching styles.
Shari has worked in various school districts as a case manager for learning disabled students, creating programs and diagnosing learning issues. She has trained teachers in the DRA, 'Foundations', the Child Study referral process and specifics of the Administrative Code, and also is an active member in the following educational groups.
Coaching Parents for Special Education- a group that caters to the parents of disabled students. Helping them understand their child's disability, how their disability affects their learning process, and how to ensure that they are among fellow students graduating high school or college.
Reading Instruction in Special Education- a group of parents, students, teachers, specialist, and administrators providing support and knowledge in the area of reading instruction.
With all of the work Shari does with the children on a daily basis, she still manages to make time to volunteer at numerous organizations.
